Sam's Thoughts

Keepin' it Cool! - My Entertainment Unit Mods.

No I'm not getting back into assembling PC's, it's bigger than that.  Yes this is actually something for myself and no, it's not a new computer.  I hate those things despite having to work with them every day.

I've purchased a shipload of cool stuff from www.CoolPC.com.  Actually I think it was www.CoolerGuys.com but hey they're essentially the same company but different websites and they just like to confuse everybody by having their shopping cart hosted via Amazon.  Here's the rundown on what I bought and what I plan to do with it after the jump.

The first two items mentioned are what matter. They will enable me to power all four fans without having to connect them to a proper PC power supply.  You see I'm not putting these super quiet fans in a PC, they're going in my brand spanking new Entertainment Unit, which is still on order but here's a link to the unit in question:

Once the kit installed these 4 puppies will cool things down when the entertainment gets too hot.  The thermostat will monitor the internal temperature of the entertainment unit and fire up the fans to extract the heat when things get a little toasty.

I'm planning on investing in a Yamaha RX-V3900 A/V Receiver soon and from my measurements there will be about 1cm of clearance from the top of the entertainment unit.  So I'm hoping to place the thermostat relatively close to the vent of the A/V receiver and keep the device cool.

Not quite sure where I'll be mounting the Thermo Display but I'll experiment first before carving up my unit.  My initial thoughts are to mount it in the rear as it should be mostly set and forget.

Pics and progress of the project still to come but I'm pretty excited and hope it all works out.

If you think this is a great idea you can click HERE to order order each part or the entire kit and be just as cool as I am.
